What Sets Us Apart

Two Things Every Customer Asks Before They Trust Us.

What we do differently — and what you won't find at this shop. Both matter.

✓ What we do

The things we take seriously.

$110 diagnostic — credited in full toward your repair.

Pressure test the low and high sides, UV dye injection if needed, electrical scan, visual inspection of the compressor clutch, condenser, and lines. If you have us fix it, the $110 comes off the repair total. If you don't, you walk out with a written diagnosis you can take anywhere — nothing wasted.

EPA Section 609 certified refrigerant handling.

R-134a, R-1234yf, hybrid and EV systems. We recover, recycle, and recharge to manufacturer-specified gram-weights using a calibrated digital scale — not a "topped it off" guess. Federal law requires it. We do it right.

Published flat prices. Written quotes.

You see what an AC recharge or system repair costs before you call. Every full estimate is itemized, in writing, and in your hands before we touch a hose.

One shop. Body, mechanical, electrical, AC.

If your AC failure is tied to a wiring fault, a bad pressure sensor, a worn serpentine belt, or a fan controller — we fix all of it under one roof. One invoice. One timeline. One point of contact.

✕ What you won't find

The things we won't do to you.

No "just top it off" Freon scams.

If your AC was cold last summer and isn't now, you have a leak. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak is a $110 band-aid that fails in 2–4 weeks. We find it first, fix it, then recharge once. Done right, once.

No "you need a whole new compressor" upsell.

Sometimes you do. Often you don't — it's a clutch, a relay, a pressure switch, or a $40 sensor. We tell you the truth even when it's a smaller ticket. That's how we earn the next car.

No dealership labor markup charged to you.

Dealerships bill AC labor at $180–$220/hr in the Charlotte metro. National chains mark up parts 40–60%. We don't carry that overhead, so neither do you.

No "call for a quote" games.

Our AC prices are on this page. If another shop won't quote a recharge or system repair over the phone, that's usually because they intend to pick a number after they see your car.

Why is my AC failing?

The 8 Most Common Reasons Your Car AC Isn't Cold.

Knowing what's likely wrong before you call helps you ask the right questions — and spot a shop that's about to oversell you. Here's what we actually see in our bay every week, in order of frequency.

1

Low refrigerant from a slow leak

The #1 cause we see — accounts for roughly 7 out of 10 "AC blowing hot air" calls. AC systems are sealed; if Freon is low, something is leaking. Most leaks are at O-rings, the compressor shaft seal, hose fittings, or a pinhole in the condenser from road debris.

Our fix: $110 diagnostic locates the leak with UV dye + electronic sniffer (credited toward repair). Reseal or replace the failing part. Vacuum-down. Recharge to factory spec. Total typically lands in the recharge + light system repair range.
2

Failed AC compressor

The compressor is the engine-driven pump that pressurizes the refrigerant. When it fails you'll usually hear a grinding, clicking, or squealing noise — or the AC will simply stop working entirely. A locked-up compressor can also snap your serpentine belt and leave you stranded.

Our fix: Replace the compressor, mandatory accumulator/drier, and expansion valve. Flush the lines to remove metal debris. Recharge. Same-day on most domestic cars. From $220.
3

Clogged or damaged condenser

The condenser sits in front of the radiator and bleeds heat out of the refrigerant. Bugs, leaves, road debris, or a low-speed front-end impact can clog or puncture it. Symptom: AC cold at highway speeds but warm at idle.

Our fix: Clean if salvageable, replace if cracked or clogged with corrosion. From $220 including recharge. Same-day.
4

Bad blend door actuator

Modern cars use small electric motors to mix hot and cold air. When one fails, you'll get cold air on one side and hot on the other (in dual-zone systems), or a steady clicking sound behind the dashboard. Common on Ford, GM, BMW, and Mercedes vehicles.

Our fix: Replace the actuator and recalibrate the climate control module. From $220. Same-day.
5

Weak airflow from the vents

If only certain fan speeds work, it's the blower resistor. If no airflow at all, it's the blower motor or a clogged cabin filter. AC cooling may be fine — air just isn't getting pushed into the cabin.

Our fix: Replace blower motor, resistor, or cabin filter as needed. Test all fan speeds before you leave. From $220. Same-day.
6

Electrical fault — fuse, relay, switch

The AC won't turn on at all. Could be a blown 10-amp fuse, a stuck relay, a failed high/low pressure switch, or a wiring fault from rodent damage. Most chain shops give up here and refer you to a dealership.

Our fix: Electrical diagnostic with OEM-level scan tools (included in the $110 diagnostic). Trace the circuit. Replace what's failed. From $220.
7

Leaking evaporator core

The evaporator lives under the dashboard. When it leaks, you lose refrigerant slowly and may notice a faint chemical/sweet smell on cold start. Labor-heavy because the dash has to come out — but it's the only permanent fix.

Our fix: Replace the evaporator core, expansion valve, and drier. 1–2 day job. From $220 in labor + parts — typically half the dealership quote.
8

Heater or cooling system failure

If your defroster doesn't clear the windshield in winter, or you're seeing engine temperature spikes alongside AC issues, the heater core, thermostat, or radiator hoses may be involved. Heating and cooling overlap more than most drivers realize.

Our fix: Full heater & cooling system service — thermostat, radiator, hoses, heater core. From $220. Same-day on most jobs.

My AC stopped blowing cold on the hottest week of July. Three shops quoted me $1,400+ for a new compressor. Prime Motors found a leaking O-ring during the diagnostic — total bill came to under $400 and the AC has been ice-cold ever since. Honest people.

Took my 2018 BMW X3 here after the dealer wanted $2,200 for an AC compressor. Prime Motors did the same OEM-grade replacement for nearly half the price, finished same day, and explained everything. Will never go back to the dealer.

Diagnostic took 30 minutes — turned out it was a small leak plus a cabin filter. Total including the diagnostic was under $400, and they took the $110 off the repair as promised. Other places would've upsold me. Straight shooters.

Got Questions?

Quick Answers Before You Bring Your Car In.

Why is my car AC blowing hot air?
The 5 most common causes, in order: 1. Low refrigerant from a slow leak (about 70% of cases) — AC is a sealed system; if it's low, it's leaking. 2. Failed AC compressor — usually with clicking, squealing, or grinding noise. 3. Clogged or cracked condenser blocked by road debris. 4. Bad blend door actuator mixing in hot air. 5. Electrical issue — blown fuse, bad relay, or failed pressure switch. We diagnose all five in 30 minutes for a flat $110 — credited in full toward the repair. Call (704) 635-1813.
How much does auto AC repair cost in Matthews, NC?
Our published prices: AC recharge from $200 (refrigerant refill and leak check, R-1234yf or R-134a). AC system repair from $220 — covers compressor, condenser, evaporator, blower motor, blend door actuator, and other AC component work. Heater & cooling system from $220 — thermostat, radiator, hoses, heater core. Complete diagnostic flat $110 — credited in full toward your repair. Written estimate always free. Chain shops and dealerships typically charge 2–3× these prices — Kelley Blue Book lists national averages of $239–$521 for a recharge and $1,319–$2,515 for a compressor.
How long will my car be in the shop?
AC recharge: 30–60 minutes, same-day. Diagnostic: 30 minutes. System repair (compressor, condenser, blower, blend door): 2–6 hours, same-day on drop-offs before 11 AM. Heater & cooling: 1–4 hours, same-day. Evaporator (under-dash): 1–2 days. Written timeline before work starts.
Do I just need a Freon recharge, or is it something bigger?
If your AC has never been recharged and is just slightly weaker than it used to be, a recharge ($200) may be all you need. But here's the truth most shops won't tell you: AC is a sealed system. If it was cold last summer and isn't now, refrigerant didn't "wear out" — it leaked out. Adding Freon without finding the leak buys 2–4 weeks. Our $110 diagnostic includes a UV-dye and pressure test to find the leak first — and the diagnostic cost comes off your repair.
Is it safe to drive with a broken AC?
Your engine won't fail because the AC is broken, but there are two real risks: 1. A locked-up AC compressor can snap your serpentine belt — which drives your power steering, water pump, and alternator. When it breaks, you lose all three at once and your engine overheats within minutes. A $220 repair becomes $2,500+. 2. Your defroster runs through the AC system. Even in winter, the AC compressor engages every time you hit "Defrost" to pull humidity out of the cabin. A broken AC means foggy windshields in cold/humid weather. Get it diagnosed early.
Why does my car AC smell bad when I turn it on?
That musty, sour, gym-sock smell is mold and bacteria growing on the evaporator coil behind your dashboard. The evaporator is always cold and wet when the AC runs, and if the cabin filter is clogged or the drain hose is plugged, moisture sits there and grows colonies of bacteria. The fix: cabin filter replacement plus an evaporator cleaning treatment — included under our AC system repair tier, from $220.
What refrigerant does my car use — R-134a or R-1234yf?
Cars built 1994–2016: Almost all use R-134a. Cars built 2017 and newer: Most use R-1234yf — more environmentally friendly but $90–$150 per pound (which is why dealerships charge $400–$500 for newer-car recharges). Both are included in our $200 AC recharge service. The exact refrigerant is printed on a yellow sticker under your hood near the AC service ports.
Do you work on all makes and models?
Yes — every make, domestic and foreign. Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Jeep, Subaru, Mazda we handle daily. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Tesla, Volkswagen, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Land Rover, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti — our techs have 15+ years on European and luxury systems specifically. Hybrid and EV AC systems (Prius, Tesla, Mach-E, BMW i-series, etc.) use high-voltage electric compressors — we're certified for those too.
Do you offer a warranty on AC repairs?
Yes. 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty on all parts and labor. If anything we touched fails inside that window, we fix it free — no questions, no fine print. Compressor and condenser replacements carry an additional manufacturer parts warranty up to 36 months. We give you a printed warranty card at pickup.
Can you fix the AC the same day?
Most AC jobs — yes. Recharges, system repairs, heater/cooling work, and most compressor replacements are completed the same day if dropped off before 11 AM. Specialty European parts may take 1 business day — but we'll tell you before you commit, not after.
